Mauro Gatti

He is exactly like his drawings; fun, humorous and cheerful.
He comes together with Cyrus, his inseparable bullmastiff.

Bio

Illustration, creative direction, and game design: for Mauro these are all opportunities to express his very personal humour – unmistakable and with a playful style that evokes the illustrative styles of the 1960s and 1970s.
But as he likes to recall, for him ideas come before style. For a simple reason: a great idea never goes out of fashion!

That said, style he certainly does have – and it is such an original style that when you meet Mauro personally you realise that it is exactly like his drawings: funny, humorous and cheerful. Not by chance his motto is: “A smile is the cheapest way to be happy”.
Who knows whether living and working in Los Angeles has helped him be like this?

We can imagine him at work in the studio of his Californian apartment accompanied as always by Cyrus, his inseparable bullmastiff.

Experience

He began his career as an interactive designer in the 1990s. In 2004, he was one the founders of Mutando, a creative studio in Milan that since 2012 has been part of the De Agostini publishing group.

Today he heads a creative design team working mainly on mobile projects, with a particular focus on storytelling and game design. Among others he has worked for MTV, Nike, Diesel, Barilla, Vans, Red Bull and Vogue.

In Los Angeles he leads a “double life”: by day he is an art director for JibJab, where he has produced the animated series Story Bots for Netflix and many other children’s projects, but at night he works as an illustrator, drawing for advertising, publishing, the record industry and fashion.
